The girls soccer team lost its first game of the season, 4-0, against the 15-0 Good Counsel Falcons on senior night Oct. 22. The Vikes finished out their regular season with a record of 9-1-1.
The Falcons dominated early in the game, but by the last ten minutes of the first half the Vikes started to create chances for scoring. The Falcons scored early in the second half with a rebounded ball that had been blocked by goalie Claire Bartholomew, but the teams were sharing possession again by the end of the game.
The Falcons, who are the number-one ranked team in the nation, overpowered Vikings defense, said captain Lottie Nalls.
“Good Counsel has so many offensive weapons, so they’re really hard to guard,” she said. “They’re really fast and have good foot skills.”
The Vikings, who are the number one seed in Montgomery County, will have their first playoff game in November. Nalls is hopeful about the team’s prospects.
“This year we have a great team,” she said. “We have the potential to win regionals and then go on to states.”
