Wilco’s new album a hit

Wilco officially released today its ninth studio album, “The Whole Love,” on the band’s own label, Dpm Records. Wilco decided to form its own label in January after years of trouble with its previous label, Warner Bros Records. The switch gives the band full creative and financial independence.

Recorded in the same loft as Wilco’s bestselling album, “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” the new album shares many striking similarities with previous albums, such as the slimmed-down recording style and use of subtle electronics.

The album’s standouts include the lead singles “I Might” and “Born Alone,” with their pop structures and catchy choruses. The album opener, “Art of Almost,” is one of the most ambitious tracks the band has ever produced because of the heavy use of electronic sampling and DJ-inspired beats. The fast paced “Standing O” spotlights guitarist Nels Cline’s impressive use of guitar chops as well as dynamics.

Overall, Wilco has once again proven themselves to be one of the best bands in the industry and will surely be a band to go see on their upcoming North American tour.
