Girls volleyball improved its record to 2-2 after defeating the BCC Barons, 3-2, Sept. 21.
The Vikes gained momentum early, defeating the Barons 25-20 in the first set. The Barons returned in the second set with intensity, defeating the Vikes 25-20 and tying the game at 1-1.
Regaining energy in the third set, the Vikes defeated the Barons 26-24. However, BCC won the fourth set.
The Vikes fell behind 7-1 early in the fifth set. Led by middle hitter Catherine Benz and setter Maddie Craig, the girls rallied to tie the game at 11. They scored four more points, giving them the 15-13 set win, and the 3-2 game victory.
“Catherine [Benz] carried the team today,” Linn Bumpers said. “Paulina [Levy] had some good kills, and Maddie [Craig] held the team together mentally.”
The team hopes to raise its record above .500 as it travels to Churchill to face the undefeated Bulldogs Sept. 23.
