Both the boys and girls crew teams had a successful weekend at the Maryland State Championships on May 1, winning titles in 8 events.
Notable events include the girls varsity 8 and varsity 4, who won the state championship, and the varsity boys 8, who took home the silver medal.
The girls showed great endurance as they raced four times and blew their competition out of the water, finishing ten seconds before any other boat.
“It definitely means a new step for the rowing program at Whitman because we have not historically been that fast team that everybody thinks about,” senior Hannah Platt said. “But we had medals in almost every event.”
The teams will continue to compete in important races in the next few weeks, including Cities on May 14 and the national-scale Stotesbury Cup Regatta on May 20-21.
