Every year begins with the most hyped and exciting professional sports event, the Super Bowl.  Super Bowl XLV marks the 45th annual championship game for the NFL, and it will be an exciting one. 

The Green Bay Packers will face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have won a total of six Super Bowls, the most in NFL history.  On the other hand, the Packers have won 12 league championships, three of which were Super Bowls.  They won the other 9 championships before the NFL established the Super Bowl.

This matchup should draw attention from many as the Packers are looking to regain league dominance.  The last time they won a Super bowl was back in 1996 with the lending hand of quarterback Brett Favre.   Now, Aaron Rodgers is turning a fresh page in franchise history by leading the Packers through the playoffs and to the Super Bowl for the first time since the Favre era.  Linebacker Clay Matthews and defensive tackle B.J Raji have been dominant this season and will be the key to stopping Pittsburgh’s prolific offense.

The Steelers are heavily favored to win the matchup on Sunday, partially due to their experience in the 2005 and 2008 Super Bowls. Defensive Player of the Year Troy Polamalu will weaken the Green Bay passing game and cause mayhem for Rodgers. Known as one of scariest and dirtiest players in the NFL, linebacker James Harrison will hold the Steeler defense together and will likely provide fans with at least one bone-crushing hit. Star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and receiver Hines Ward will work together to pick apart the Packer defense.

Texas Stadium will host the Super Bowl for the first time in league history.  Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that having the Super Bowl in Dallas will prove to be the “perfect fit” for both teams. This year, fans can pay $200 to tailgate outside of the stadium and watch the game via television screens.

Both teams will put up a fight, but the Steelers will emerge as the better team when all is said and done. Their experience and defensive prowess will outmatch Aaron Rodgers and the high-flying Packer offense.
