Gallery: Thundersnow causes MCPS to close school Jan. 26-28

Snow weighed down trees, sometimes breaking off roots or causing trees to fall altogether, Jan. 27. Photo by Lucy Chen.

As the first snow fell early Wednesday morning, students woke up to their first snow day of second semester.

A bigger storm later that day at 4 p.m. blanketed Bethesda with snowflakes, taking out power lines, weighing down trees and closing school for a second day.

Students enjoyed their break by throwing snow balls, sledding and cuddling up by the fire, anxiously awaiting another closure from MCPS.

Using the last snow day, the county closed school for a third day, giving students and staff a 5-day break and 1-day school week.
