The girls’ soccer team (3–1) shut out the Springbrook Blue Devils 7–0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
After a stunning overtime defeat in the Vikes’ previous contest, Whitman started strong from the opening whistle and kept their foot on the gas pedal. Both the offense and defense were in control the entire game. The scoring started early in the first half when junior Evelyn Javers found the back of the net from 15 yards out. Minutes later, the Vikes scored two more goals before halftime.
The Vikes put their subs on the pitch in the second half. The Vikes maintained beautiful passing throughout the game and overwhelmed the time of possession. The ball rarely found itself on the Vikes side of the field, and junior goalkeeper Sophie Casteleberry saw little action in the entire game. Juniors Oliva Hansel, Renee Miller and Ava Anderson also scored on Saturday. The Vikes had 34 shots on goal, while Springbrook only had one shot against Whitman. They would win 7–0, marking their third shut-out this season, with the other games being against Northwest and Seneca Valley. In both of those contests, the Vikes scored seven or more goals.
The Vikes will look to add to the win collum as they travel to county rival, the Walter Johnson Wildcats, on Tuesday.
