The soccer team (1–1) fell to Northwest High School Jagaurs (1–1) 2–1 on Monday.
The Vikes dominated the first half of the game and controlled time of possession. Senior Tyler Coune had a stellar goal around the 20-minute mark of the first half. The Vikes kept the momentum rolling when Northwest missed a penalty kick. The Jaguars had multiple chances to tie it up but failed numerous times, as the Whitman defense stayed strong. However, with three minutes remaining, the Jaguars launched a ball from 25 yards out, knotting the game at one all.
For most of overtime, the Vikings stayed sharp, making clean passes up and down the field, but eventually, the Vikings fouled Northwest outside the 18, and the Jaguars capitalized on the mistake. The Jaguars would win 2–1, giving Whitman their first loss.
The Vikes are back home next week as they face off against the Quince Orchard Cougars (1–0) next Tuesday as they try to bounce back.
