Varsity girls soccer fell to the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders 1-0 on senior night, dropping the team’s record to 7-5.
The Lady Vikes were strong defensively throughout the first half. Goalkeeper Hannah Sasscer provided the team with an outstanding one-handed save to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard early. Within the final few minutes of the first half, the Vikings had two close shots, one of which hit the post off the foot of forward Aliza Wolfe.
However, neither team could convert a shot into a goal, and the teams entered halftime knotted at zero.
The Lady Vikes came out firing in the second half with a shot by forward Emily Yin that was tipped over the net by the Eleanor Roosevelt goalkeeper. Even though the Vikes were able to keep the pressure offensively, a deflected shot off an Eleanor Roosevelt forward with just under 20 minutes left in the game went past goalkeeper Claire Bartholomew for the only goal of the night.
The team will open playoffs against Magruder at home on Oct. 30.
