Boys soccer vanquishes Wootton 1–0

By Gibson Hirt

The boys soccer team (321) got the best of Wootton Tuesday night, as a great team effort led to a 1–0 shutout.

It was a technical and evenly matched battle throughout, but the Vikes finally cashed in when sophomore Tyler Coune buried the ball in the back of the net off a beautiful assist from junior Diego Bayona. After 40 minutes of play the Vikes were up 1–0 and they held their ground for the rest of the game. Per usual, stellar defensive and goalie play helped the Vikes keep the Patriots off the scoreboard.

A great win almost turned into a highlight reel when senior Renen Frank just barely missed a goal, a screamer that clanked off the post, that surely would have landed him on Sportscenter Top Ten. While everyone would have loved to see that shot go in, the Vikes came out with the victory, the most important part of each and every game.

This Thursday the Vikes will take on the Churchill Bulldogs (3–0–1), in the annual community night game. Both teams have started off the season strong, and it will be a great match for the community to watch together.
