Boys soccer drops season opener to Good Counsel 2–0

By Gibson Hirt

The boys soccer team (0–1) lost to Good Counsel (1–1) 2-0 in their season opener at home Friday night.

The Vikes’ 2021–22 season opener didn’t quite go as planned as they started off their new campaign with a loss to the Falcons. After 40 minutes, the match was tied. The scoreless tie lasted into the second half until the Falcons broke the ice. The ball sailed into the back of the net twice within five minutes as a result of defensive mishaps by the Vikes. The Vikes had several opportunities at the end of the match to make a comeback, but ultimately fell just short. They led the Falcons in scoring chances but were unable to capitalize on crosses in front of the goal.

Although the result wasn’t what they wanted, Vikes fans still showed up in full force to cheer on their friends and family in the first match of the season. White shirts and loud screams filled the stadium and brought energy that had been missing for almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vikes will look to pick up their first win of the season next weekend as they travel to Saint Benedict’s Prep in Newark, NJ.
