Boys Volleyball falls to Northwest 3–1 despite early lead; eliminated from playoffs

The boys volleyball team (8–5) lost to the Northwest Jaguars (13–0) 3–1 Tuesday night in the second round of the playoffs.

Whitman started off fast and confident, winning the first set by a score of 25–17. Superb plays by setter Colby Fong helped Whitman take an early lead.

“He just played with great intensity,” defender Cameron Fong said. “He kept it up even as the game went downhill towards the end.”

The Vikes were fired up after a dominating first set fashion. However, Northwest went on a late surge, sweeping the next three sets.

Northwest won the second set 25–21, the third set 25-15, and the final set 25–20. Whitman started to lose their intensity towards the end of the third set.

“We were still playing well,” said Fong, “Northwest just had much more talent and had better fundamentals.”

Greg Shaffer, Colby Fong, Ethan Gilman, and Rohit Gude all played their last games for Whitman. Although the seniors had their last game end in a loss, they all enjoyed great volleyball careers playing for Whitman.
