After a steady five game win streak, the baseball team (7–4) failed to hang on against crosstown rivals BCC Barons (8–4) on Friday, losing by one run 7–8.

The Vikes started off the game on the wrong foot, as the Barons scored some early runs, giving them the lead. But the squad came back in the third inning through a double RBI triple by center fielder Justin Carboni, tying the game 2–2.

However, the team’s offensive intensity was not enough to compete with the Baron’s powerful hitting. The Vikes’ defense started to fall apart, with some significant errors in the infield.

“We had a few base running mistakes early in the game that could have given us those two runs to win the game,” Carboni said. “As well as cleaning up a few errors we had in the field.”

Though the game wasn’t over yet. In their final attempts to get the lead, Carboni kicked off the seventh inning with a homerun to put the Vikes within 2 runs of the Barons. Catcher Jack Ryan followed up with a monstrous hit, and 2 hitters were walked to load the bases.

But, the squad was only able to score one more run in the seventh, and fell to their rivals 7–8. While it was an unfortunate loss, the Vikes are more than ready to comeback in their upcoming games.

“The most important thing for our team is to bring a high level of energy and intensity,” Carboni said. “We have to be loud and support each other in order to play our best games as opposed to playing down to the level of the worse teams.”

The Vikes hope to bring this high level of energy and intensity on Monday as they hit the road to take on the Churchill Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m.
