Girls tennis
The girls tennis team (5–0) overtook long time rival Wootton Patriots 4–3 in a highly contested match Tuesday.
The Vikings kept their undefeated streak alive with an important win against one of their toughest competitors.
“We played against some really good private schools before the season started to get us prepared for this match,” third singles player Emily Battan said. “Also we played some hard division 1 matches like B-CC and WJ that definitely helped us a lot.”
With weeks of practice and hard work behind them, the Vikings secured three wins, but the Patriots matched them and tied the score 3–3.
The final match came down to fourth singles player freshman Eve Gold. Gold preserved against her opponent and secured a game clinching 7–5, 6–4 win with her team cheering her on.
“Eve played great, she was very steady and just kept playing her game even when we were all watching her match,” First singles player Carina Greenberg said. “Everyone was really determined to win so her we were all were into her match.”
Their determination paid off and this win was a very crucial one for the team as they make their way up to counties.
“Wootton was by far our biggest and hardest match of the season,” Battan said. “Hopefully this means that we can win the rest of our matches to win division 1.”
Next, the Vikings play the Blair Blazers Thursday at home.
Boys soccer
The Boys Soccer team (4–2) was trounced by the Walter Johnson Wildcats 4–0 due to an abysmal second half performance.
The team only ceded one goal in the first half, but in the second half the Wildcats went on a run putting up three more goals to seal the game.
The team’s next game is at home Thursday against the Northwood Gladiators.
