The baseball team (6–1) won their second consecutive game Thursday with a 7–1 victory over the Paint Branch Panthers.
The Vikes jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as a dominant performance by pitcher Max Palermo suffocated the Panthers’ offense the entire game.
Palermo only allowed one run, and prevented the Panthers from gaining any traction to mount a comeback.
“Max kept on popping strikes on the mound—he was fantastic—and we didn’t let them get up on us; we kept on pounding away and putting up runs almost every inning,” outfielder Tyler Hwang said.
The team exploited numerous Paint Branch mistakes to hold a commanding lead throughout the game.
“Their first pitcher wasn’t throwing a ton of strikes and was walking people, so our batters did a good job of taking advantage of the walks that their pitcher gave us,” pitcher Nathan Haddon said.
In addition to the walks, the Panthers’ errors lead to an inside the park home run, and a dropped pop fly brought another runner home.
The Vikes host a doubleheader this Saturday with games at 1:30 against Churchill and 6:30 against Northwood.
