Current principal intern Karen Bryant will serve as the principal of Silver Spring International Middle School next year.
SSI offers the IB Middle Year program and French and Spanish immersion programs and has approximately 950 students. It’s in the Downcounty Consortium, which means that it feeds into five high schools: Blair, Northwood, Einstein, Kennedy and Wheaton.
While looking forward to the next stage of her career, Bryant will miss Whitman students’ passion, she said.
“I love the school spirit that the students have in everything,” she said. “It’s wonderful and it’s contagious. It makes you want to be involved in everything that Whitman has to offer.”
Whitman students are supportive of each other and always have a “can-do” attitude, Bryant said.
Bryant’s presence at school had a positive impact on the entire student body this year, principal Alan Goodwin said.
“She was a great help to the school,” Goodwin said. “She is very friendly, personable, and works well with a wide range of people.”
Bryant looks forward to applying what she has learned at Whitman this year in her next job.
“I’m so glad I had the opportunity to be here and learn from Dr. Goodwin for a year and to experience the Whitman experience,” she said.

Ms. Bryant will do an amazing job at SSI, but we will miss her greatly at Whitman.
