After a week of campaign Facebook groups, posters and speeches, students elected next year’s class officers today. The election results were announced at the end of the school day after students voted in English classes.
Rising sophomores elected Pablo Rothschild to be class president, alongside Clara Ryan and Ray Crist as class officers. The junior class elected Jaiwen Hsu as president, with Annie Waye and Ari Gutman as class officers. For the rising seniors, Carolyn Hoover was elected class president and Jake Schwartz and Hannah Ginsky will be class officers.
Different grades had varying levels of competition among candidates. The rising juniors running for office developed a close relationship and had fun campaigning, Hsu said.
There was more competition in the election for next year’s sophomore class president because there were more candidates running.
“We had a lot of good candidates this year,” Rothschild said. “It was a very tight race, but overall it was the people’s vote.”
The newly elected candidates are already starting to form their plans for the upcoming school year.
“Last year, I saw an opportunity to change things and improve things and I really wish to continue that this year,” Hsu said.
Looking forward, the new class officers expressed high hopes for next year.
“I’m looking forward to having a great year and making it really fun for everybody,” Ginsky said.
