[score id=”43227″ align=”right”]In their season opener, the boys lacrosse team narrowly lost to North Carolina foe the Needham Broughton Capitals 7-6.
The game was played at Gaithersburg High School because of the wet field conditions at Whitman.
The Vikes got off to a hot start, scoring the first three goals of the game.
The teams played evenly throughout the second quarter, as the Capitals outscored the Vikings 2-1.
The scoring picked up in the second half, as the teams exchanged goals in the third quarter.
The game was tied at six entering the fourth quarter, but the Capitals struck the game’s final goal midway through the final period, giving them the 7-6 victory.
“We got off to a good start, but our inability to clear and our penalties killed us,” attacker Alex Hilsenrath said. “That gave the other team a lot of easy chances to score.”
The Vikes got a lift from attacker Richard Miller, who had a hat trick for the Vikes.
The Vikings will look to pick up their first win of the season when they take on the Blake Bengals this Tuesday.
