The boys basketball team got a much needed 49-46 victory over the Blair Blazers, snapping a four game losing streak in which each game lost they led in the fourth quarter, and let the opposition come from behind.
“This win meant a lot because we hadn’t won a game in almost a month,” center Anton Casey said. “We played good defense and had a lot of success stopping their offensive sets.”
The Vikes outplayed the Blazers for most of the game, using offensive rebounds and outside shooting to jump to an early 11-4 lead after the first quarter, and 21-15 lead at halftime.
The Vikings continued their strong play early in the second half, but allowed the Blazers back into the game by missing free-throws in the final minutes. The Vikes went 6-15 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, which allowed the Blazers to cut their lead to only three.
A final Blazer prayer from behind half court at the buzzer came up short, giving the Vikes the win.
Head coach Christopher Lun inserted Sophomore guard Hannes Koglenik into the starting lineup for the game, a decision that proved key for the Viking win.
Koglenik had a career-high 16 points, going 4-8 from three point range.
Forward Riley Shaver provided a lift off the bench, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds.
The Vikings (5-6) will take on the 5-6 Paint Branch Panthers this Tuesday.
