After staging a second half comeback, the boys basketball team lost to the undefeated Richard Montgomery Rockets (10-0) 50-46 in overtime, their fourth consecutive loss by five points or less.
“Our last 4 losses have all been tough. Two in were in OT, a loss by two, and loss by 5 in which we led by 11 in the fourth quarter,” head coach Christopher Lun said. “We need to do a better job of executing in crunch time.”
The Vikes got off to a slow start offensively, going into halftime trailing 23-11. As they have in many games this season, the Vikings had a strong third quarter, outscoring the Rockets 18-9.
The teams exchanged baskets in the fourth quarter, eventually ending with a 42-42 stalemate at the end of regulation.
In the extra period, the Vikings had opportunities to take the lead, but couldn’t convert.
Point guard Hannes Koglenik had a career high 11 points on four of nine shooting, while forward Shaq Diboti-Lobe added 11 points and three assists.
The team will look end its four-game slide next Friday when they take on the 5-4 Blair Blazers.
Lun said the team is continuing to work on late-game execution, focusing on ball movement and smart shot selection.
“We still need to do a better job of whipping the ball on offense, and we need to improve from the free throw line,” Lun said.
