A student keyed four teachers’ cars in the Whittier Woods parking lot during seventh period last Monday.
Three of the cars belonged to art department teachers. The fourth belonged to a social studies teacher.
“It was scratched from the rear bumper all the way across to the hood,” the social studies teacher said.
Three of the teachers left school without realizing what had happened, but the fourth reported the incident, prompting the rest of the teachers to check their cars.
“I’m horrified,” the social studies teacher said. “It’s going to cost me a lot of money.”
Security team leader Cherisse Milliner notified the police after the incident was reported, and, through her own investigation, was able to identify the student who committed the crime. She said that the student had committed malicious destruction, which could result in prison time and a $2,500 fine if the damages are worth over $500. However, Milliner said the penalty may be lessened since the perpetrator was a minor.
For now, it is clear that this incident will not go unresolved.
“I’m certainly expecting the perpetrator to be prosecuted,” the social studies teacher said.
