Have you ever dreamed of what it’s like to dine and watch one of Hollywood’s most recent hits like a star? Well your dream may have just come true.
The iPic Theater of Pike & Rose plaza in North Bethesda opened last week. The elaborate theater features a bar, concession stand, live DJ, free photo booth, multiple theaters and in-theater dining.
Walking up the freshly carpeted staircase, candles glisten from the walls and an escort waits at the top of the stairs.
There’s an option to be a discounted member (ranging from free to a $15 monthly fee), but otherwise there are two standard prices for tickets: $13 for premium seating and $22 for premium plus seating.
While these prices are undoubtedly more than your standard Regal Cinemas tickets, many argue the experience is worth the splurge.
Junior Grace Hemmersbaugh chose the premium plus seating while out to watch Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
“I was just flabbergasted,” Hemmersbaugh said. “I was very impressed with the theater’s service and they were one of the most comfortable seats I’ve ever sat in.”
While premium seats offer enormous leather chairs with a tray table that anyone will find relaxing, premium plus seating supersedes the luxury of a first class airplane seat. The monstrous leather seats have an electric control to recline completely, unlimited popcorn, a table to share for two, plush blankets, pillows and a service button to call a waiter.
The dine-in experience allows customers to choose from a gourmet menu before pressing the call button and having a waiter arrive within minutes.
Junior Maddy Coleman ordered the pretzel sticks with cheese and jalapeños and a margarita pizza. Aside from complimenting the overall aesthetics and taste of the food, Coleman said she loved the idea of the waiters.
“It wasn’t distracting at all because they weren’t constantly walking around and tried to crouch down as low as possible to keep out of the way,” Coleman said.
The waiters remained diligent and friendly throughout the entire experience and seemed enthusiastic to be there, Coleman said.
The theater’s smooth operation isn’t just thanks to the months of planning, but also from the day-to-day actions of the employees.
“I’m definitely working for my money and there are a couple of kinks to work out,” said Brittany, one of the waitresses.
There are 12 iPic theater locations throughout the country; however, this is the first location for the east coast.
The iPic experience is not one to be taken casually. Rather, it should be used for a nice treat, birthday or special event as it certainly provides a memorable and relaxing experience.
“It would be a good date,” Coleman said. “A really nice date.”
Both Coleman and Hemmersbaugh had an overall positive reaction.
“It was worth it,” Hemmersbaugh said. “I would definitely come back.”
