The boys tennis team defeated the struggling Damascus Hornets 6-1 April 8 at home, collecting its fourth win of the season and preserving its undefeated record.
The singles players went 3-1, with junior Nathaniel Sherman dispatching his opponent in two sets (6-1, 6-1), junior David Bloch winning after dropping his first set (1-6, 6-3, 6-3) and junior Joey Gumataotao winning 6-3 then 1-0 before his opponent retired.
Doubles players went 3-0, each winning in two sets with sophomore Jonathan Chen and freshman Oscar Levine winning 6-3 then 6-2, juniors Matt Lee and Simon Amat winning 6-1 then 6-0 and junior Ali Hashim and senior Brian Wegmen winning 6-1 then 6-1.
Bloch spoke on the Vikes hot start: “I think the team has really adapted well to losing our top players,” he said. “Hopefully we can keep the momentum up for our bigger matches.”
The Vikes next take to the courts April 12 to play the Blair Blazers at home.
