School will close at 11:40 a.m. today, principal Alan Goodwin announced at 10:18 a.m. The pep rally and the girls and boys basketball games are canceled and Whitman Idol will be rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 1.
All after school activities, including sports practices, are also canceled, he said.
MCPS issued a statement at 10:14 a.m.:
Montgomery County Public Schools will close early today (Jan. 25) due to emergency weather conditions. Schools will dismiss students two and one-half hours earlier than the regular closing time. Students in morning pre-kindergarten programs and morning half-day Head Start will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon pre-kindergarten and other early childhood programs are canceled. All school activities also are canceled. Day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. A decision about community activities in school buildings has not been made.
