The girls basketball team defeated the 10-4 Churchill Bulldogs Jan. 22, walking away with a record of 11-3 after the 56-33 blowout.
The Vikes came out ready to play, playing tight defense from the beginning and holding the Bulldogs to a single point in the entire first quarter.
The team’s offense ran plays smoothly, keeping the momentum with fluid passes. In the first half, the Vikes scored 22 points while holding the Bulldogs to half of that amount.
“It was a team effort,” forward Avery Witt said. “We ran our plays and we worked together; nobody was hogging the ball.”
Witt was the high scorer for the Vikes with ten points, moving around the court and taking open shots. Witt attributed her success to team plays; for instance, she scored one of her baskets off of a smooth screen from captain Linn Bumpers.
The Vikes had many successes on the court. Forward Dani Okon, and guards Kim Durante, Marissa Cannon and Nicole Fleck each scored eight points.
The Viking will face off against the 5-8 B-CC Barons Jan. 25 for the second time, having previously won 48-33. The girls take the court at 7 p.m. at home after the boys game.
