Longtime security team member Cherisse Milliner was appointed the new security team leader of the security department Jan. 2. The 23-year MCPS employee succeeds former head Andy Weiss, who retired Dec. 31 after working in MCPS schools for 15 years.
Principal Alan Goodwin will be interviewing candidates this month to fill Milliner’s former position, he said. He hopes to hire a replacement by the start of next semester.
Milliner is currently surveying the school for possible security improvements and anticipates some changes to enhance the building’s security, she said.
“We’re looking to outfit doors with new manual locks and ensure that all areas are secured with window shades,” Milliner said.
Milliner will also ensure that the school has all the updated material in order to monitor the new camera system that was installed over the summer, she said.
“We’re going to get up to the 21st century here,” Milliner said. “We’re going to make sure that everything is in place so that everyone is safe. That’s my main priority, ensuring that all students and staff are safe here.”
