The boys basketball team lost to the Poolesville Falcons 39-48 in its season opener Dec. 6.
The team was plagued by turnovers and an inability to finish their opportunities on offense. Without starters Daniel Lowet and Billy Lee, the Vikes were unable to penetrate the paint effectively and were forced to shoot from outside.
The boys fell behind early in the game and were never able to regain the lead. Although the Vikes were able to keep the game close, the Falcons outscored them 21-16 in the fourth quarter.
The Vikes had no answer for Anthony Papagjika, who was 6 for 7 from the three-point line and finished with 23 points.
Captain Andrew Castagnetti and guard Liam Hatch led the team, scoring 10 and 7 points respectively.
“It was a tough loss, but I know we are going to bounce back because we have great chemistry.”
The team looks to win their first game on the road when they face the Wheaton Knights Dec. 8.
