The girls basketball team began its season with a 42-50 loss to the Poolesville Falcons Dec. 6.
The Vikes started out on top as center Rebecca Ford secured the tip-off, sending it to guard Maddie Cannon to get the Vikes rolling.
Forward Linn Bumpers was powerful in the paint, getting many shots from the post through the game. The guards were shooting well from the field as Brittany Fleck, Justine Wood, Kim Durante, Maddie Cannon and Nicole Fleck each sunk a three.
Poolesville made the same number of three-pointers and even less inside shots, but where they beat the Vikings was on the foul line. The Falcons were 15-23 on the line, outdoing the Vikes 3-6.
Both teams cranked up the intensity in the fourth quarter, each scoring more points than the first half alone. The Vikes scored 18 points, but it wasn’t enough to subdue the Falcons’ 27.
The Vikes hope to rally as they face off against the 0-1 Wheaton Knights in their first home game of the season Dec. 8.
