It can be tough for any student to get back into the school year routine. For anyone looking for a break from the books, these are some of the upcoming concerts in the D.C. area.
Virgin Mobile FreeFest
While the free tickets for the Virgin Mobile FreeFest were swiped up on Aug. 24, anyone can still get tickets by signing up for Virgin Mobile’s Free I.P. program or buying the freemium ticket. Freefest will take place at Merriweather Pavillion on Oct. 6. The line-up for this all day festival include: Jack White, Skrillex, M83, Nas, Santigold, Alabama Shakes, Porter Robinson & Zedd and plenty more artists to keep you on your feet all day long. Remember that this isn’t just a concert: its “festival” status means it will be equipped with two main stages, a “Dance Forest,” circus performers and large fire sculptures. Regardless of which artists you’re there to see, this is bound to be an unforgettable day.
Zac Brown Band
For all the country fans out there, Zac Brown Band will be at Jiffy Lube Live on Oct. 12. Don’t miss out on a chance to see them perform songs from their latest album, “Uncaged.” Critics have been buzzing about the country/folk band since its 2008 hit “Chicken Fried” reached number one on country billboard charts. They’ve continued to get recognition for popular hits like “Toes” and “Knee Deep.”
Passion Pit
In support of their newest album, “Gossamer,” electronic indie pop band Passion Pit is touring across the country. If you remember loving their singles “Sleepyhead” or “Little Secrets,” definitely check out “Gossamer,” it won’t disappoint. They will be performing at the 9:30 Club in D.C., not once, not twice, but three nights in a row (Oct. 14, Oct. 15, Oct. 16).
Justin Bieber
For all of the Biebs fans out there, you can finally breathe. Justin Bieber is coming to D.C.’s Verizon Center on Nov. 5. Purchase tickets through Ticketmaster or Bieber’s website, but make sure to order a ticket before the entire tween girl population of the DMV snatches them up.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis “The Heist World Tour”
Seattle hip-hop rapper Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis will embark on their first world tour this fall to promote the release of their new album, “The Heist.” They will be coming to D.C.’s 9:30 Club on Nov. 13. The duo has been hard at work on its latest album, which is to be released Oct. 9. Independent artist Macklemore has a unique and refreshing style; his newest music video, “Thrift Shop,” shows just what he can do. Macklemore and Lewis rap to a catchy beat, add unique elements and have fun.
Citizen Cope
Ten years ago, Citizen Cope, or Clarence Greenwood, debuted his first self-titled album. Fast forward to 2012, and Greenwood’s on tour to support his latest album, “One Lovely Day.” Come out and see Citizen Cope at the 9:30 Club on either Nov. 21 or Nov. 23. His sound is founded with acoustics and vocals, but he actively incorporates elements of blues, folk and pop into his music. A few of his hits include “Let The Drummer Kick” and “Sideways.”
