The field hockey team shut out the 1-4 Richard Montgomery Rockets 3-0 Sept. 19, increasing its record to 2-2.
Midfielder Sydney Markus set the tone of the game early, scoring two goals in the first half.
“Definitely the first half was very good,” Markus said. “Once you score the first goal, the second goal comes naturally. It was very exciting.”
The Rockets launched an aggressive attack after halftime, which the Vikes checked with their stick skills and speed.
As the Rockets began to possess the ball more in the second half, the Vikes had to fight to preserve their lead.
“We sort of plummeted towards the second half,” Markus said. “We really need to work on our consistency.”
Regardless, the team was able to penetrate the Rockets’ defense, taking several shots on goal. About halfway through the second half, midfielder Caroline Seibel scored her first goal of the season.
The Vikes look to add another victory to their record Sept. 22 away against the 3-3 Paint Branch Panthers.
