The girls lacrosse team beat its crosstown rival, the B-CC Barons, 13-2, April 12, improving its record to 3-1.
The Vikes dominated on the offensive end, controlling the pace of the game and winning the majority of ground balls. The team was able to capitalize on its opportunities thanks to goals from attacks Clara Schneider, Claire Block, Sarah Backenstoe and Josie Schwartz , along with midfielders Brittany Fleck and Marissa Hosker. Attack Annabelle Scully, midfielder Corinne Lake, Backenstoe and Schneider added one assist each.
The defense put forth its best performance of the season, holding the high-powered B-CC offense to just two goals on 14 shots. Goalie Lilly Blum posted an 85 percent save percentage
“Defensively, this was the best we’ve played all season,” coach Julie Frank said. “The girls were communicating well, sticking their double teams and forcing turnovers.”
This was the first time Vikes have defeated B-CC in the regular season in four years. The game will serve as a momentum builder for the rest of the season as the girls face the Churchill Bulldogs April 14.
