Even though the Foo Fighters’ latest CD,“Wasting Light” isn’t officially released until April 12, the band has been streaming the album for free on their website since last week. The album marks a return to singer/guitarist Dave Grohl’s roots — heavy rock songs with a pop touch. Grohl even recruited former Nirvana bandmate Krist Noveselic and Nirvana producer Butch Vig to work on the album.
The band recorded the album in Grohl’s garage, giving the album a raw sound, another staple of Grohl’s early work. There are no acoustic or soft/slow songs on the entire album, which is odd for the Foo Fighters because many of their hits have been ballads. Songs from the new album solidify Grohl as one of rock’s best songwriters.
Some of the best tracks on the album include “Dear Rosemary,” featuring Hüsker Dü’s Bob Mould on backing vocals and “I Should Have Known,” featuring Krist Noveselic on bass. Songs like“Back and Forth” and “These Days” showcase Grohl’s knack for writing heavy, grunge influenced songs.
“Wasting Light” was released online alongside a Foo Fighters 3D documentary/concert film, which will only be in theaters on April 5. The film covers 17 years of the band’s history and includes interviews with some of the people closest to the band.
Overall, the Foo Fighters have released an extremely focused and satisfying rock record that will surely put them on the charts again soon.

I think it is weird how it was overlooked in this article that this record was released on vinyl as well. And in addition the entire album was recorded analog, meaning the old-school way, before the computer age, and was then digitized.
