The Lady Vikes took the championship for the second year in a row at Metros with a score of 407, beating Good Counsel by 63 points and 2009 champion Churchill by 86 points. The boys also finished in a solid tenth place at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center Feb. 26.
Although they didn’t win one individual event, the girls set records for both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay races, which are worth more points, to take the title in the 47th annual Metros Swimming and Diving Championships.
Juniors Reia Tong and Victoria Kuhn and sophomores Charlotte Meyer and Audrey Gould were a part of the record setting (3:29.15) 400 free relay team that contributed to the Lady Vikes championship run.
Tong, Gould, Meyer and freshman Sarah Kannan teamed up to set the other record for the Vikings in the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:32.36.
Although there were no victories in the individual events, the consistent second place finished helped propel the Vikings to victory.
Tong took second in 50 and 100 free, Meyer placed second in the 200 IM and 100 back, while Gould grabbed the 100 breast.
Senior Emily Schmidt also took second place in the diving portion of Metros despite a hand injury she suffered by hitting it against the diving board at Nationals.
