The girls lacrosse team (8–6) fell to Walter Johnson (12–2) 8–5 on Friday afternoon, getting eliminated from the playoffs.
At the start of the game, the Vikes worked very hard on defense, blocking multiple goals before Walter Johnson finally scored. The girls quickly fought back, regaining control of the ball and heading straight down the field, with junior Paige DeLano evening it up. The two teams went back and forth with possession of the ball, making it an intense match. The Vikes ended the first quarter up 2–1.
Walter Johnson came back strong in the second quarter, scoring the first two goals, putting them in the lead. The Vikes retaliated, and the majority of time was spent in the Wildcats half, with strategic runs and accurate passes. However, the Wildcats later countered, leading to another two goals for the Wildcats.
In the second half, Whitman bounced back, starting with possession and quickly getting their next goal. An amazing save by freshman Meryl Weiner triggered a breakaway for the Vikes that resulted in a jump shot goal by senior Keira Robinson. From that draw, the girls remained in Walter Johnson’s half, causing their fifth goal by freshman Lorelei Rawson. Although Whitman continued with outstanding play and intense defense, Wildcats managed two more goals, ending the game at 8–5.
