The second trailer for the latest Martin Scorsese film, “Shutter Island,” is finally out, and it looks better than ever. Personally, it reminds me of what “Silence of the Lambs would look like were it a supernatural thriller.  Another thing I noticed was how Mark Ruffalo’s character barely got any screentime.  Surprising, considering he’s been getting a slew of lead roles lately (“The Brothers Bloom,” for example).  Other than that, the acting, especially DiCaprio’s, looks incredible in the trailer.

Set in 1954 and based on Dennis Lehane’s best-selling novel, the thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley and Michelle Williams.

US Marshal Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. But after he and his partner are trapped on the island, he begins to wonder whether he’s part of a trap set up by the hospital, whose radical treatments have a large reputation for being unethical to downright disturbing.

As Daniels delves deeper and deeper into this mystery, he begins to uncover even more disturbing facts about the island, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects could break the case wide open. As a major hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, Daniels wonders if he will ever escape.

The long-awaited film has been pushed back to be released Feb. 19, 2010, rather than its original release date Oct. 3, since Paramount Studios is hoping for its lesser-known films, “The Lovely Bones and “Up in the Air,” to gather publicity.  Rather strange, considering most big filmmakers and producers are vying for October spots in order to get recognition during the award show season.

Either way, the film looks superb and should be recognized.  Besides, if it’s by Martin Scorsese, you know it’s going to be good regardless.
