Girls soccer beats Wootton 2–1 in double overtime nail-biter

By Faiyaad Kamal

The girls soccer team (5–0) took down the Wootton Patriots (3–1) on Tuesday night 2–1 in double overtime. After falling to the Patriots last year, the Vikes got their revenge this time, winning their closest game of the season to date.

In the first half, junior Sheridan Snow gave the Vikes an early lead. After the early strike, both defenses dominated, making Snow’s goal the only tally of the half. The Patriots evened things up in the second half, marking the first time the Vikes dominant defense had given up a goal this season.

For the remainder of regulation, neither team was able to find the back of the net, sending the match to overtime. The first overtime period ended in a stalemate, sending the game to double overtime. In the closing minutes of the second overtime period, junior Gemma Davitian scored the golden goal for the Vikes, giving the team a 2–1 victory.

The Vikes will look to extend their undefeated season next Thursday at 7:15 against the Churchill Bulldogs (3–1–1).
