Girls volleyball destroys Springbrook in straight sets

By Asa Ostrow

The girls volleyball team (1–2) steamrolled the Springbrook Blue Devils (0-4) on Thursday in a straight set thrashing.

The first set saw the Vikes jump out to a fantastic start, finishing with a dominant 25–7 victory. The team was brimming with energy throughout the set, and that showed in their cohesion on the way to the win. The Vikes kept it rolling during the second set, refusing to let off the gas, winning the second straight 25–9, not giving Springbrook any openings to snatch a lead. In the last set, the Vikes had to hold off a surge from the Blue Devils and came away with a 25–18 final set win to close out the victory in straight sets.

Freshman setter Camilla Fan helped the Vikes maintain control throughout the entire game, as her effective communication and awareness gave the offense opportunities to deliver some strong hits that led to points. In addition, junior libero Eliza Raphael shined on defense with multiple great saves, forcing the Blue Devils to work hard for their points.

The Vikes will look to build off the momentum next Tuesday when they host the Montgomery Blair Blazers (0–3) at 6:30 pm.
