Girls volleyball rolls through Poolesville in season opener

By David Lewis

The girls volleyball team (1–0) dominated Poolesville (0–1) in straight sets to start the regular season on Wednesday night.

The Vikes got off to a white hot start, winning the first set 25–11. Poolesville got their act together in the second set; the Falcons’ energy level visibly increased, but the Vikes came away with the set, 25–17. In the final set, the Falcons took a commanding 22–17 lead, but the Vikes reeled together six consecutive points en route to a 25–23 game-clinching set victory.

“I think the team did great,” said Middle Hitter Megan Chen.  “The players on the court kept their heads in the game and played hard, and the people off the court also did an excellent job keeping the energy up. It feels very good to come away with the win, and I’m looking forward to an amazing season.”

The Vikes will look to continue the positive momentum in their home opener next Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Rockville (0–1).
