The hockey team (0–3), fell to the Richard Montgomery Rockets (1–1–1) 5–4 Thursday night.

Neither team could find the net in the first period, but the Vikes opened the scoring in the second period when forward Zach Zeldow scored to give the Vikes a 1–0 lead. The team allowed two goals to the Rockets at the halfway point of the period, but Zeldow tied the game up at two goals apiece with five minutes remaining in the period. However, the Rockets scored two goals near the end of the period, leaving the Vikes with a 4–2 deficit going into the third period.

Fifty-one seconds into the third period, Zeldow scored his third goal of the night on a power play. Later in the period, forward Adam Melrod scored his first goal of the season and tied the game at four apiece with 15 minutes left in the period. But the Rockets were able to score a goal to break the tie with ten minutes remaining in the game, handing the Vikes their second loss of the season.

“The last game was really close,” forward Kushan Weerakoon said. “As the season progresses, we’ll train and win those games.”

The team was defeated by the Churchill Bulldogs (3–0) 7–1 Tuesday night.

The Vikes struggled defensively throughout the game, allowing three goals during the first period and an additional goal in the second period. However, Jack Bowers netted a goal seven minutes into the period to cut the Vikes deficit to 4–1.

Though the short rally would not be enough in the end with the Bulldogs scoring three unanswered goals to make the final score 7–1.

The team next plays the Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets (0–3–0) Friday at Cabin John Ice Rink at 10 pm.
