The girls soccer team (0–1) fell to the Quince Orchard Cougars (2–0) 3–1 Monday night in the team’s season opener.

The Cougars struck first 15 minutes into the first half. The Vikes later responded with a goal scored by forward Claire Lane with 6:17 left in the first half, tying the game at one apiece.

Once the second half began, the Cougars took advantage of the Vikes’ struggle to finish the ball. The Cougars scored two more goals off of counterattacks in which led the Cougars to win 3–1.

“We need to work on defensive organization, it really hurt us last night,” coach Gregory Herbert said. “We also need to work on putting the ball into our forwards feet.”

The team next plays the Sidwell Quakers (2–0) Wednesday at the Sidwell Friends School at 4:00 pm.
