The boys lacrosse team (8–6) lost in overtime to the B–CC Barons (10–4) 13–12 Friday afternoon in the second round of playoffs.

Whitman started off with an early 2–0 lead and maintained their lead until the final minutes of the first half, in which the B–CC offense rallied to tie the game 7–7.

The game remained close throughout the second half, with both sides playing solid defense. B–CC took a late lead of 12–9, but two goals scored by attacker Lucas Hilsenrath and one from midfielder Midfielder Blake Aucamp in the last three minutes forced the game to overtime.

“The whole team really took it up a notch in those last three minutes,” Aucamp said. “We knew how many goals we needed, and put all our energy into getting those goals.”

After three minutes of suspenseful overtime play with loud cheering from students from both schools, B–CC attacker Justin Gaffney hurled a shot into the back of the net to end the Vikes playoff run.

The loss was seniors Max Rothman, Ethan Kohan, Max Fletcher, Lawson Carver, Chesley Hurdle and Joey Schaefer’s last game for Whitman lacrosse.

Although upset by the result, Hilsenrath remained optimistic about next year’s possibilities.

“We’re going to miss our seniors, but there’s a lot of kids who I think will be able to step up,” Hilsenrath said. “This season’s end came earlier than expected, but I definitely think we will be making a run for states next year.”
