The girls lacrosse team (1–0) beat the Urbana Hawks (0–1) 8–7 Thursday on a last second game winner.

The Vikes started off strong by scoring five goals in the first half and holding a firm defense that only let in two goals. In the second half, the team struggled to keep possession and allowed the Hawks to mount a comeback.

After the Hawks tied up the game with 90 seconds left, the Vikes staged one more offensive attack. With the clock winding down, attacker Grace Nemeroff ran down the field and passed it to attacker Faith Parker who launched the ball into the net with three seconds left to win the game.

Parker led the Vikes in scoring with three goals, while Nemeroff and attacker Abby Waldvogel bagged in two and midfielder Kieley O’Hara netted in one.

The team’s next game is home against the Quince Orchard Cougars on Monday at 7 pm.
