The boys (9-1) and girls (8-3) tennis team placed third and fourth, respectively in a consolation round after losing in the semi finals at states over Memorial Day weekend.

Boys and girls singles, doubles and mixed team competed in states, each making it to the semi finals. After losing every game in the semis, the Vikes played a consolation round.

“The boys and girls doubles won the consolation round and came in third, so they got bronze medals,” Coach Jasen Gohn said. “My singles player ended up not feeling well so he got fourth.”

The teams played against schools from across the state. Since Montgomery County is region two and the teams didn’t advance to finals, the Vikes didn’t compete against any Montgomery County schools, Gohn said.

The team hopes to make a comeback next year for a shot at first place.

“The teams we lost to played a little bit better than us,” Gohn said. “For next year it’s just a matter of taking more lessons and improving their skills.”
