Boys lacrosse edges out B–CC 8–7; advances to section finals

The boys lacrosse team (10–3) will advance to the section finals after an intense 8–7 victory over archrival B–CC Barons (9–4) in a last second game-winner.

The Barons jumped out to a 2–0 lead early on as the Vikes struggled on offense in the first quarter. Despite the slow start, the Vikes brought the intensity in the second as they came back to tie the game 3–3 at the end of the first half.

The second half was a more physical game, as players from both teams talked trash, shoved each other, and played more aggressively on both ends. With the game tied 7–7 and time winding down, the Vikes had one more opportunity to score on an offensive push. After a missed shot off the post by attacker Lucas Hilsenrath, attacker Max Fletcher grabbed the rebound and scored with 21 seconds left to win the game.

“It was crazy,” Fletcher said. “The game winning goal is always the best thing and feeling”.

A huge part of the Vikes’ win was their freshman attack duo led by Dylan Vohra and Lucas Hilsenrath. Vohra led the team with four goals, and Hilsenrath added a goal plus an impressive five assists.

The Vikes will advance to the section finals against the undefeated Churchill Bulldogs (13–0) away Monday at 6pm. The team lost to Churchill at home earlier this year 10–6, but they look to take revenge next game.

“We’re going to use this momentum and game to improve,” Fletcher said. “We have to take our mistakes this game and move forward to hopefully beat Churchill.”
