Boys baseball skates by Gaithersburg 8–7

After what seemed like was going to be a blowout, the baseball team (9–5) flew past the Gaithersburg Trojans (9–5) on Saturday in a 8–7 victory.

The Vikes struggled early on defensively, giving up three errors in the third inning. But, after going down 0–7, the squad brought back its momentum and started making plays offensively. Center fielder Justin Carboni pinch hit a two run double which sparked the team’s offense.

After tying it 7–7 in the seventh inning, the game went into another inning. In overtime, left fielder Sam Mermelstein bunted the ball, but the Trojans’ defense jumped on it quickly. When all hope had seemed lost, the Trojans overthrew the ball to first, allowing third baseman Sean Fleming to run home.

The squad hopes to carry this momentum into their next game on the road against the Quince Orchard Cougars on Monday at 3:45 p.m.
