Boys basketball sets milestone in 63-53 defeat over Northwest

For only the second time in the past 11 seasons, three Viking players reached or surpassed the 20 points mark.  This milestone came in the Vikes’ 63-53 defeat over the Northwest Jaguars, which boosted their record to 3-2 on the season.

Center Anton Casey led the team with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while forwards Shaq Diboti-Lobe and Riley Shaver both scored 20.

“Anton had a monster game,” head coach Christopher Lun said. “He is really starting to assert himself down low.”

In the first half, the Vikes suffocated the Jaguars defensively, and used quick ball movement to create both open shots and clean looks at the basket.

“Our guys are really starting to share the ball well,” Lun said. “Defensively, we were very good as a unit.”

The Vikings will take on arch-rival Churchill this Friday, who are 0-4 so far this season.

“Although Churchill is struggling, we can’t take them lightly,” Casey said. “We’ll do a lot of defensive preparation and try to improve our offensive sets before then.”

More specifically, the Vikes will look to sure up their rebounding before Friday’s game, Lun said.

“We just need to polish up our boxing out,” he said. “We can’t wait for Friday night.”
