The Swim and Dive Team’s season came to a dramatic close last Saturday at the State Championships, where the boys took fifth place and the girls took seventh.
Wootton won the overall meet for the girls while Richard Montgomery won the boys competition.
Several Whitman swimmers became States Champions at the meet, including junior Mike Sullivan who is now the State Champion in the 200 free, with a time of 1:42.76. John Janezich, Mike Sullivan, Alex Vissering and John Mooers also became State Champions in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:13.14.
Despite not winning states, much of the Vikings’ season was a success, with the boys finishing 5-0 and winning Division II, while the girls finished 4-1.
“We had a lot of support from the team and everyone stepped up for one last great race,” senior Sarah Kannan said.
