New morning announcement speakers revealed

The current morning announcers passed on the torch—or microphone—as they named junior Jack Calder, sophomore Harris Cram and freshman Selvi Ulusan as next year’s morning announcers.

Current morning announcers Ali Foreman, Eyal Hanfling and Danny McClanahan are all graduating this June.

Secretary Donna Gardiner, assistant principle Kathryn McHale and the current announcers held tryouts in the auditorium in April.

The turnout at the tryouts reflects the legacy that the current announcers have left behind.

“I heard that in the past only a few people showed up to do the announcement auditions,” Cram said. “But close to thirty or forty people showed up to try out this year.”

The tryouts consisted of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, reading a few fake announcements and finishing with a joke, just as the current announcers do.

Foreman said that she has formed her identity while working on the morning announcements.

“Some people are on sports teams or involved with drama,” Foreman said. “But morning announcements were my thing.”

Ulusan is now tasked with becoming the energetic announcer for next year.

“I have some pretty big shoes to fill with Ali leaving next year,” Ulusan said. “It’s going to be hard being the peppy girl.”

Cram, on the other hand, will be the class clown of the team.

“I’ve learned that the best way to grab someone’s attention is to be kind of ridiculous,” Cram said. “How else would people know about the board game club if it wasn’t for checka-checka-checka?”
