The baseball team won its fifth consecutive game April 8, defeating the 1-5 Walter Johnson Wildcats 13-1 and improving its record to 5-1.
After losing the season opener against Poolesville, the Vikes have rebounded in epic fashion, cruising through their last five games and moving up to fourth in the Montgomery County baseball power rankings.
Cal Brooks pitched five solid innings, yielding only one run. Alex Lesley came in to close the game in the fifth inning.
Offensively, first basemen Dan Duffy led the team with a bomb to center field for a two run home run. Shortstop Patrick Hisle and left fielder Max Steinhorn contributed two triples and two doubles respectively, giving the Vikes an upper hand on the Wildcats.
Hisle and centerfielder Drew Aherne held down the fort on defense, each contributing key diving catches.
“We just played Whitman baseball,” Hisle said. “There was a lot of intensity and we never let up.”
The Vikes look to establish themselves as a power in the region when they take on the 6-0 Quince Orchard Cougars April 9 at home.
