The girls basketball team pulled out a 47-41 win against the 2-2 Magruder Colonels Dec. 14, raising its record to 3-1.
The Vikes were prepared to play tough defense, having watched film of the Colonels offense prior to the game.
Just as in previous games, the Vikings had scouting reports on two of the opposition’s most threatening players and successfully shut them out.
“We did a pretty good job of shutting them out, but a few of the other players who we didn’t have scouting reports on stepped up,” captain Linn Bumpers said.
High scorers included guard Kim Durante, with 11 points, and forwards Marie Hatch and Avery Witt with nine and eight points respectively.
The Vikes kept a narrow lead in both halves, leading 22-21 in the first and 25-20 in the second.
“As a team, we know we should’ve played better, but we’re all proud of ourselves that we still pulled out a win,” center Rebecca Ford said.
The Vikes look to add another victory to their record against the 3-1 Paint Branch Panthers Dec. 17 at home.
